JVS Toronto has more than 75 years of experience providing customized employment, training, and job search support to newcomers to Canada.

We work with newcomers from more than 130 different countries to help them find jobs in the Greater Toronto Area through enhanced language, employment, job search, and bridge training programs.

Job Search Workshop for Newcomers

At JVS Toronto, we’re committed to helping everyone, whoever they are, to find roles that suit them. Give us 4 days and we will give you more confidence in pursuing your occupation in Canada. You will learn what skills companies want and where the jobs are.

This 4-day program includes:

Building Unbiased and Inclusive Workplaces Leveraging Diversity (BUILD)

BUILD is an online pre and post arrival information and orientation program for international professionals in Architecture or a related field in Ontario.

This 8-week program includes:

  • Architecture-specific information sessions delivered by Canadian industry experts and employers
  • Group job search sessions customized for architecture and one-on-one job search support
  • Mentoring and Networking opportunities

Participants must have a CLB5+ and must be a permanent resident or convention refugee.

Newcomer Youth: Connections for Success (NYCS)

A program for newcomers to Canada between the ages of 15 – 18. This helps you to explore career options and gain valuable skills for the Canadian workplace.

  • Valuable workplace skills for your resume

Immigrant Professionals Leveraging Architectural Knowledge for New Opportunities (IPLAN Employment)

IPLAN EMPLOYMENT helps you build on your international education and work experience. It helps you to gain the knowledge and skills to help you integrate into the architectural workplace in Ontario.

The program is a unique blend of academic and workplace training. It is delivered over 14 weeks at Toronto Metropolitan University and at JVS Toronto. 

IPLAN EMPLOYMENT is designed to help prepare you for your Ontario career in architecture and get you hired faster! International professionals should also ensure that they avail themselves of information regarding the process for licensure as an architect in Ontario. This is administered and governed by the Ontario Association of Architects under the Architects Act. 

This 14-week program includes: 

  • 3 architectural courses at Toronto Metropolitan University
  • Sector-specific employment workshops at JVS Toronto
  • Licensing information from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA)*
  • Mentoring, internships and work placements
  • Job search coaching and support

Immigrant Professionals Leveraging Architectural Knowledge for New Opportunities (IPLAN Practice)

If you are an International Architecture Professional pursuing or working in an architectural career in Ontario, IPLAN PRACTICE is for you.

This 14-week bridge training program includes:

  • 72 hours of technical skills training by sector specialists
  • Targeted professional skills training provided by JVS Toronto
  • Licensing information from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA)*
  • Networking and mentoring
  • Job search support
  • Internships and employment opportunities

Program intake and assessment services include information sessions to introduce potential applicants to the program. IPLAN PRACTICE is designed for newcomer intern architects across Ontario and is delivered fully online.

International Skills Applied for Geriatrics (ISAGE)

A bridge training program for international professionals with a background in Healthcare, Social Work and Education. It is designed for people who are interested in transitioning into careers in Social Services and Geriatrics in Canada.

This 12-week online program includes:

  • Academic courses delivered by George Brown College
  • Canadian workplace essentials and communication training at JVS Toronto
  • Job shadowing in Social Services and Geriatrics
  • 1-2-1 job search support
  • Mentoring connections
  • Employer information sessions, internships and work placements

Recruitment for Equity, Accessibility and Diversity (READY)

This is a bridge training program in partnership with George Brown College. It is designed for international professionals with a background in HR, sales, business development, hospitality, or marketing.

READY provides internationally trained professionals with essential skills for successful integration into the Canadian labour market. It is specifically for those in the field of Recruitment and Job Development.

This 14-week program includes:

  • Employment Support by JVS Toronto
    • 1-on-1 job search and career coaching
    • Networking with employers and industry experts
    • Mentoring 
  • Education by George Brown College
    • Academic course – Employer Engagement
  • Practical E-Learning Modules by ARES Staffing Solutions
    • Customer relationship management (CRM)
    • Data management and ATS for HR/Recruitment

Road to Employment for Immigrant Women

4 Weeks of Comprehensive Career Support for Women

Immigrating to Canada is disproportionately challenging for women, who often put aside their professional aspirations in order to tend to the needs of their families.

Do you have international experience in the skilled trades?

Newcomer Pathways will prepare you for the Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA). We support you every step of the way as you gain the Red Seal or Certificate of Qualifications you need to start working in Ontario. 

Services can help you:

  • Understand the Canadian labour market in your sector
  • Prepare for and learn how to look for jobs in your field
  • Learn about foreign credential recognition and licensing processes
  • Connect to relevant settlement and trade specific programs

IPLAN EMPLOYMENT Eligibility Requirements
  • High level of English-language proficiency (CLB 7/8) (CLB 8). Enhanced language training is available to applicants, if needed, prior to starting the program
  • Undergraduate degree in architecture from a university outside Canada. Applicants with an equivalent degree in a related field may also be considered
  • At least two years of work experience in architecture or a related field (paid or voluntary) obtained outside Canada
  • Open to Permanent Residents, Canadian Citizens, or Convention Refugees

*Note:

  • The practice of architecture in Ontario is governed by the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). All individuals who are internationally trained in the field of architecture, or who have held the status of architect in another jurisdiction must contact the OAA or visit the OAA website at www.oaa.on.ca for current information about licensing requirements and the licensing process in Ontario.
  • JVS Toronto is not a licensing body in Ontario.
  • The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) is the sole organization recognized by the architectural profession in Canada to:
    • Assess the educational qualifications of architecture graduates;
    • Accredit professional degree Programs in architecture offered by Canadian Universities; and
    • Certify the professional qualifications of Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects.
  • Architectural services may only be offered through a Certificate of Practice issued by the OAA.
IPLAN PRACTICE Eligibility Requirements
  • Open to Permanent Residents, Canadian Citizens, or Convention Refugees

*Note:

All individuals who are internationally trained in the field of architecture, or who have held the status of architect in another jurisdiction must contact the OAA or visit the OAA website at www.oaa.on.ca for current information about licensing requirements and the licensing process in Ontario.

  • Are unemployed or underemployed and looking to use your professional skills in Canada
