Disability Employment & Inclusion Programs

At JVS Toronto, we understand the needs of individuals living with a wide range of disabilities and offer the support required to obtain meaningful employment.

We’re committed to serving clients from all walks of life, including people with disabilities. Our targeted employment and volunteer programs unlock your abilities so you can reach your potential at work.

Specialized Employment Services

Employment and Job Search Services for Individuals on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

When you register, you will be paired with an employment expert for 1-on-1 customized consultations based on your individual situation. We provide a range of services including employment counselling, employment workshops, job development and placement services, as well as job retention supports.

Our free services include:

  • Assessment of skills, interests and abilities 
  • Job search strategies and support, including resume development and interview preparation 
  • Information about careers and occupations, local labour market, employment opportunities 
  • Help in maintaining employment 
  • Information and referral to other employment and community services 

Open to individuals of legal working age; receiving ODSP supports, must be resident of Ontario and eligible to work in Canada. Contact us today to get started!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Job Readiness Project

Unique 6-month program that helps individuals on the Autism Spectrum find employment.

For individuals, age 18 to 30, who have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum, including Asperger’s, and are struggling to find or maintain employment.

The program includes:

  • 8-week workshop series to develop your job readiness skills
  • Workshop topics include workplace communication, employer interactions, workplace behaviour, and self-advocacy
  • Weekly 1-2-1 sessions to set and achieve goals
  • Paid work placement for up to 14 weeks
  • On-the-job coaching and support
  • Job retention workshops

RiseAbility Employment & Inclusion Program

An innovative 1-year program that gives adults with developmental disabilities the tools they need to thrive in the workplace and beyond.

RiseAbility is designed to empower participants by developing essential employability skills, enhancing communication, fostering independent living skills, and promoting activity and inclusion within the greater community.

The program includes:

  • Identifying individual strengths and challenges
  • Developing a wide range of skills
  • Professional assessments to track progress
  • Understanding employer expectations and workplace practices
  • Hands-on volunteer opportunities and employment experiences
  • Involvement with participants, families, and caregivers
  • Expert guidance of experienced professionals

The Al Green Resource Centre

The Al Green Resource Centre offers programs for individuals with learning or developmental disabilities. It helps to create meaningful employment, training and volunteer opportunities that develop work, life and social skills. All services are delivered by a team of professional Community Participation Support Workers, Employment Counsellors, Workforce Specialists and Job Coaches. Our team is knowledgeable about developmental disabilities and has direct experience working with a wide range of individuals.

Note: All programs require a referral from Developmental Services Ontario

Person Directed Planning Initiative

Preparation and support for life transition through volunteer positions, employment and/or educational opportunities.

Developing Work Connections

A pre-employment and life skills program for individuals 18 and older, with developmental disabilities. On-site and community-based activities are designed to build employment and life skills and help individuals integrate into the community. Includes a focus on Individualized Support Planning. It also endeavours to:

  • Assist participants to work toward their goals
  • Promote inclusive opportunities through meaningful group or individualized volunteer placements
  • Job coaching support, and social and leisure activities.

Youth: Community Choices for Success

A pre-employment program for individuals aged 18 to 29 with Dual Diagnosis. This means a mental health diagnosis coupled with a developmental disability.

The program includes:

  • Activities to enhance vocational planning
  • Volunteering and life skills workshops
  • Individualized Support Plan
  • Group and individualized volunteer placement – with job coaching support

IPLAN PRACTICE Eligibility Requirements
  • Open to Permanent Residents, Canadian Citizens, or Convention Refugees
  • High level of English-language proficiency (CLB 7/8). Enhanced language training is available to applicants, if needed, prior to starting the program
  • Degree in architecture from a university outside Canada
  • OAA Intern Architects eligible to write the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC)**

 

*Note:

  • The practice of architecture in Ontario is governed by the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). All individuals who are internationally trained in the field of architecture, or who have held the status of architect in another jurisdiction must contact the OAA or visit the OAA website at www.oaa.on.ca for current information about licensing requirements and the licensing process in Ontario.
  • JVS Toronto is not a licensing body in Ontario.
  • The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) is the sole organization recognized by the architectural profession in Canada to:
    • Assess the educational qualifications of architecture graduates;
    • Accredit professional degree Programs in architecture offered by Canadian Universities; and
    • Certify the professional qualifications of Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects.
  • Architectural services may only be offered through a Certificate of Practice issued by the OAA.

**The content of this program has not been reviewed or endorsed by the Committee for the Examination for Architects in Canada (CExAC). The ExAC is an experience based exam. It is the practical application of knowledge acquired through education and readings that will support examination success. Taking this program without applying the knowledge gained through practice may not result in examination success.

TRIEC Mentoring Partnership Eligibility Requirements

You should sign up for the program if you:

  • Have 2+ years of international experience in your professional field
  • Have lived in Canada for less than five years
  • Are unemployed or underemployed and looking to use your professional skills in Canada
