Local Immigration Partnership
JVS Toronto received funding to develop Local immigration Partnerships (LIP) in two neighborhoods: Bathurst and Finch and Lawrence Heights. LIP, funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), will strengthen the role of local neighborhoods in serving and integrating immigrants by providing a collaborative framework for social and economic integration of new immigrants. This is a collaboration between the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada ( CIC); CIC is the sole funder of this agreement.
The funding intends to achieve the following objectives:
- Improve access to, and coordination of, effective services that facilitate immigrant settlement and integration.
- Improve access to the labour market for immigrants.
- Strengthen local capacity to integrate immigrants.
- Establish or enhance partnerships and participation of multiple stakeholders in planning, and coordinating the delivery of integration services (including settlement, language training, labour-market integration), especially current services supported by the federal government through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) or through the provincial Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
- To build capacity at the neighbourhood level so a neighbourhood perspective can be brought to strategic thinking on immigration and settlement at the city wide level.
