Philip’s Story
Philip had been unemployed for more than 6 months. He was very professional, had good communication and computer skills, and was totally convinced he would never make a good connection back to work.
He had been sending out hundreds of resumes and getting no responses from employers and was becoming more frustrated and negative.
Working with Philip was challenging. I would receive messages from him like, “I can’t send you my weekly report because my computer broke” or “I’m not well”, or “I have a family emergency”, etc.
In the meantime, I made a contact with a high end employer located in the Yonge & Eglinton area. They needed to hire a Front Desk/Administration employee. Taking into consideration their office environment and Philip’s qualifications, I discussed this opportunity with him. I felt he was a perfect match; however, he needed to be prepared for the first step, which was going to be a pre-screening telephone call. Wow, was he excited when he succeeded in the first step and was anxious to complete the face-to-face interview.
Philip passed the first interview and now had to complete a secondinterview. The outcome? He got the job!
The owner of the company, a doctor, encouraged Philip to attend an Optical Assistant course at Centennial College and in fact paid for the course. Philip completed the course, and is now assisting the doctor.
A success story from all sides!
